In April of 2014, we were contacted to design a custom craftsman style home for a family in Homewood, AL. They purchased an existing home had it demolished to have a clean slate on which to build a home that would compliment their lifestyle. Camera Photo Dump 529

Cotton Construction was contracted to build the home. They are doing an excellent job with the build! It is extremely refreshing when the built project looks like what was designed. The new floor plan was designed to take full advantage of the lot as well as the wants and needs of the family.

As you enter the main floor , beyond a covered sitting porch, you have a direct view through the entire house to the back yard. the Foyer is flanked by a Family Dining room and a private Powder bath. From the Foyer you enter the open Living Room and Kitchen. A large window over the kitchen sink floods light into the space. As you pass the Living Room, you enter a Rear Foyer which leads to the Master Suite and Covered Porch. Due to a slight front-to-rear sloping lot, we designed the rear of the home with multiple levels. This allows for direct access into the house from a 2-Car Carport (a rare luxury to see on homes in this area). As you enter the rear of the house through a large Laundry Room, an open stairway leads you to the Rear Foyer, which leads to the second floor rooms. A large window was added at the top of the stairs to allow natural light into the space. Three bedrooms (or two bedrooms and a Playroom) and two baths finish out the second floor.

The elevation was designed with a simple roof in keeping with the Craftsman style as well as compliment the surrounding homes. Extended roof overhangs and exposed rafters give the home character and protect the windows and doors from the elements. The finished home will be a mix of natural wood siding and brick.

Here are a few mid-construction photos. It is coming together really well! Check back, as we will be updating as construction progresses. Thanks so much for reading!
